ULTA "Vintage Violet"

Hey everyone and happy Saturday!  (Who else plans to lounge about all weekend?)  Today's nail polish is ULTA's "Vintage Violet" which is part of their in house brand.  Look how pretty this purple looks in the bottle:

"Vintage Violet" is a really unique pastel violet that is actually quite bright on the nail.  The formula of this nail polish is really nice and it applied easily to my nails.  After two coats, "Vintage Violet" was completely opaque and had no streak marks.  In terms of chipping, I was able to wear "Vintage Violet" for three or four days before I had some tip wear.  Look how nice this polish is:

Overall I am happy with ULTA's "Vintage Violet."  The color is super gorgeous and it looks great with my skin tone!  I definitely plan on wearing this nail polish throughout Spring and Summer this year!

ULTA "Bam-blue-zled"

Hi all!  Today's nail polish is ULTA's "Bam-blue-zled" which I have had in my collection for about seven years now!  When I started collecting nail polish back in college I just loved to do my nails but then my friend Anna suggested I start a nail polish blog in 2011, which is how I ended up here.  It was also around this time I started to purchase a variety of brands of polish and when "Bam-blue-zled" joined the collection.

"Bam-blue-zled" is a really pretty periwinkle creme polish.  The formula of "Bam-blue-zled" was pretty good, especially considering its age!  After two coats, the nail polish was completely opaque and streak free.  In terms of chipping, I was able to wear "Bam-blue-zled" for three days before there were some small chips.

Overall I like ULTA's "Bam-blue-zled."  The color is really pretty and everything else was good with this nail polish.  I will definitely wear this nail polish again!

China Glaze "Fault Line"

Hey guys and happy weekend!  It has been a busy and long week for me and I am so glad to have a couple of days break!  So without further ado, today's nail polish is China Glaze's "Fault Line" which is a fun unique crackle polish.

"Fault Line" is a crackle polish that is neon purple!  The formula of this polish was pretty good and applied easily.  And as it is a special polish you only apply one coat and it is made to be worn over opaque colored polishes.  So I decided to test it out!

The first polish I decided to test "Fault Line" with was China Glaze's "Highlight Of My Summer" a bright neon green.  This combination turned out really well and looked awesome!  (And also slightly reminiscent of Barney & Friends).

The second polish I decided to try out with "Fault Line" was ULTA's "Bam-Blue-zled" a pretty periwinkle.  This combination was a lot more relaxed and made for a nice look.

Overall I am really pleased with China Glaze's "Fault Line."  This bright neon purple nail polish is great for nail art and to create fun looks!  I'll definitely be rocking it again very soon!

ULTA "Ginger Peach"

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday!  Today's nail polish is ULTA's "Ginger Peach."  ULTA is an American beauty supply store that sells make-up, nail polish, body products and hair items.

"Ginger Peach" is a lovely reddish-peach color with a hint of shimmer.  The formula of "Ginger Peach" was great and it applied nicely to my nails.  After two coats the nail polish was full opaque with no visible streak marks.  As for chipping, I was able to wear "Ginger Peach" for six days which really surprised me as I haven't had as much luck with other bottles of ULTA polish.

Overall I am happy with ULTA's "Ginger Peach."  Everything about this nail polish was fantastic and I can't wait to wear it again soon!

Dupe Post: Pastel Yellow Polishes

Hello everyone and happy Thursday.  (I'm so excited it is almost the weekend!)  Today's nail polish is actually a comparison between Orly's "Lemonade," butterLONDON's "Jasper" and ULTA's "Cream Of The Crop."  Here's how the polishes stack up next to each other:

As you can see the polishes in the bottle appear very similar though not completely identical.  For the comparison on my nails I used two coats for Orly's "Lemonade" and three coats for the others.  On the nails butterLONDON's "Jasper" and Orly's "Lemonade" looked the closest with Orly's "Lemonade" having a hair bit more color.  ULTA's "Cream Of The Crop" was the palest of the three.

Overall while I think butterLONDON's "Jasper" and Orly's "Lemonade" are close enough to dupes that you probably don't need to own both there is a bigger and noticeable difference for both when compared to ULTA's "Area Of The Crop."  If I had to choose my favorite is Orly's "Lemonade."

ULTA "Fine Pruned"

Hello all and happy almost first day of Summer!  Today's nail polish is ULTA's "Fine Pruned."  This is an inexpensive brand of nail polish sold by ULTA Beauty stores.

"Fine Pruned" is a purplish brown polish.  The formula of "Fine Pruned" was watery but as long as I wiped the excess polish off the brush I didn't find it to difficult to apply.  After two coats this nail polish was completely opaque  and had no streak marks.  In terms of chipping, I was able to wear "Fine Pruned" for four days before there were a couple of chips.

Overall ULTA's "Fine Pruned" is a good polish with its only fault being the watery formula.  However that being said its application is not the worst and I am willing to wear "Fine Pruned" again.

ULTA "Cream Of The Crop"

Hi guys and happy Saturday!  I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Today's nail polish is ULTA's "Cream Of The Crop."  ULTA is a store in the United States that sells a variety of make-up, hair supplies, nail polish, and body soaps.

"Cream Of The Crop" is a creamy yellow polish.  Formula wise this nail polish was a bit watery and took a bit of patience to apply.  After two coats of polish, "Cream Of The Crop" was not opaque and had a lot of visible streak marks.  In terms of chipping, I was able to wear "Cream Of The Crop" for about two days before there were some visible tip chips.

Overall I have mixed feelings about ULTA's "Cream Of The Crop."  I like the color of the polish but the watery formula and all the visible streaks were disappointing.  I have tried this polish out a few times now and it hasn't gotten any better so I probably won't be wearing this nail polish again any time soon.

China Glaze "Cons-ULTA My Manicurist"

Hi all!  We're halfway through the week so I hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend! Today's nail polish is a China Glaze exclusive for ULTA called "Cons-ULTA My Manicurist."

"Cons-ULTA My Manicurist" is a gorgeous sky blue creme.  Formula wise this polish was very watery and difficult to work with.  The brush either had too much nail polish and it went everywhere or the brush didn't have enough and there were terrible streak marks.  After two coats of "Cons-ULTA My Manicurist" there were still visible streak marks and it was definitely not completely opaque.  As for chipping I'm not sure how long "Cons-ULTA My Manicurist" would have lasted because it was so miserable to apply and looked terrible that I didn't wear this polish for long.

Overall I am very disappointed with China Glaze's "Cons-ULTA My Manicurist" because as a specialty polish for a store that sells only cosmetics I expected better.  The only thing I liked about this nail polish is its beautiful sky blue color.  I probably won't be wearing this polish again any time soon.

ULTA "Celebutante"

Hi everyone!  I hope everyone is having a better day than I am.  (Lilly for Target was a total failure and then the Starbucks was OUT of coffee... which was impossibly odd.)  Anyways today's nail polish is ULTA's "Celebutante."

"Celebutante" is a pretty bright purple creme polish.  Formula wise "Celebutante" was very easy to apply and was completely opaque after two coats of polish.  There were also no visible streak marks.  As for chipping "Celebutante" lasted about three days before some minor tip chips started, and I was actually able to wear "Celebutante" for another day or so before the chips became very obvious.

Overall I am very pleased with ULTA's "Celebutante."  Everything about this polish was great from the formula to its durability and everything in between.  I definitely plan on wearing this nail polish again and again!

Sally Hansen Big Matte Top Coat

Hi everyone and Happy November!  I cannot believe how quickly 2014 has flown by!  So earlier this year I came across this Sally Hansen matte top coat and I has been wanting to try out a matte top coat so I picked it up!  Also as far as top coats go this was under $6 (USD) so I figured I couldn't go wrong!  So to try out this matte top coat I've spent the last couple of months trying it out over several polishes in my collection!  Here's how it went:

The first polish I decided to try the matte top coat on was butterLONDON's "Lillibet's Jubilee" which is a silver shimmer polish.  I wondered how a shimmer would look as a matte and this nail polish didn't disappoint!  Sally Hansen's Big Matte Top Coat worked wonders on the silver shimmer of "Lillibet's Jubilee" and made it look like a pewter instead.  And I love how it turned out:

The second polish I decided to try out is Essie's "Mojito Madness" which is a super pretty green color!  Now when I tried this color out in March it had this gorgeous high gloss look and I wanted to see how it would look with a matte finish.  I think it turned out nicely:

The third nail polish I decided to test out is OPI's "Every Month Is Octoberfest" which is this gorgeous deep burgundy color with a lot of gold and burgundy shimmer.  I decided to test this polish with a matte top coat because I wanted to see how the shimmer would look.  I was surprised how much the matte top coat dulled the shimmer down, but it created this amazing deep burgundy/ oxblood nail polish!  Here's how it turned out:

The forth nail polish I decided to try is Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear in "Coral Reef."  "Coral Reef" is a bright coral colored crème polish and I decided to try it out with a matte top coat just to see how it would look.  (Basically I tried it because I could.)  Here's how it turned out:

The fifth, and last, nail polish I decided to try out is ULTA's "Ultra Violet Femme" which is a purple, neon, shimmer nail polish.  I wanted to see how a matte top coat would work with a neon polish.  Here's how t turned out:

Overall I am very pleased with Sally Hansen's Big Matte Top Coat!  It applies very easily and allows me to make a matte polish out of just about all of my nail polishes!  I love how well the Big Matte Top Coat worked on every nail polish I tried, but my favorite is definitely OPI's "Every Month Is Octoberfest" because it just looked amazing as a matte!  I cannot wait to try it out on even more polishes!

ULTA Pro "Island Hopper"

Hi everyone!  Now that Summer is in full swing I decided to pull out my favorite Summertime color: aquamarine/turquoise.  Wearing aqua/turquoise in Summer always reminds me of the beach (even when I am not there).  So my aquamarine of choice this week is ULTA Pro's "Island Hopper."  (Isn't the name so fitting for Summer!)

ULTA Pro (or ULTA Professional) is one of the store brands from (you guessed it!): ULTA Beauty.  Formula wise "Island Hopper" is wonderful!  After two coats of polish "Island Hopper" was completely opaque and had no streak marks.  As for chipping "Island Hopper" lasted about three full days before the chipping starting, and even then it was mostly tip chips.

Overall I am pretty pleased with ULTA Pro's "Island Hopper."  The formula is fantastic, the polish was completely opaque after two coats and I was able to wear it for three days before any chipping started.  I definitely plan on wearing the polish again!

ULTA "Ultra Violet Femme"

 

Hi guys!  So this month I have worn a lot of pink/red colors so I decided to mix it up this week and wear a purple nail polish!  I dug through my collection and decided on ULTA's "Ultra Violet Femme" which is this crazy neon purple!

"Ultra Violet Femme" lives up to its name: it is an very bright neon purple with a lot of shimmer and shine!  Formula wise this nail polish a great!  It went on very easily and probably could be a one coat polish, though I always apply two coats.  "Ultra Violet Femme" was completely opaque after two coats and had no streaking at all.  Also I was able to get really nice even coats of polish, which is nice.  However "Ultra Violet Femme" shrank as it dried so the second coat of color did not cover the first coat of color.  (You can see this on my ring finger up by the nail base!)  As for chipping ULTA's "Ultra Violet Femme" lasted about two days before it started chipping off the ends of my nails, which was a bit disappointing.  As for removing this darker colored nail polish "Ultra Violet Femme" came off very easily and didn't stain any of my nails!

Overall I like ULTA's "Ultra Violet Femme" for its fantastic color and formula.  However I wish I could have worn this nail polish longer than two days.  However I got a great price on this ULTA nail polish so I can't complain too much.  Side note: if you aren't already you should join ULTA's reward system because you get great coupons and you can sign up to get e-mails which tell you all about the sales.  (Best of all it is FREE!)

ULTA "Peach Parfait"

 

Hi guys!  I cannot believe that April is nearly over!  So I am very much enjoying that Spring is in full swing and I decided to wear another fun Springtime color this week!  I picked out ULTA's "Peach Parfait" which is a very pretty pinky-peach colored polish!

ULTA's "Peach Parfait" is a gorgeous color and I had been dying to try it out for a few months, but since I got this polish during the Winter I decided to hold off wearing it until the weather was nice!  Formula wise "Peach Parfait" is okay, but slightly on the watery side.  I had a hard time getting even coats of polish on my nails and after two coats of polish "Peach Parfait" was not anywhere near being completely opaque!  Also I was almost completely unable to get nice even brush strokes which means the tips of my nails are missing a lot of polish and the bad brush strokes also means I had streaks all over my nails!.  In terms of chipping it wasn't so much that "Peach Parfait" chipped off, instead it rubbed off the tips of all my nails making it look like I had only painted part of my nails!  I was able to wear ULTA's "Peach Parfait" for three days before my nails looked so bad that I took the polish off!

Overall I have come to the decision that ULTA's "Peach Parfait" is prettier in the bottle than on my nails.  The formula is only so-so and after having trouble getting even coats of polish on my nails, streaks on most of my nails, and it rubbed off my nails after only three days.  I must admit that I do not love or even like ULTA's "Peach Parfait" as I hoped I would.  I will probably give this polish another try but I wouldn't really recommend going out and buying "Peach Parfait."

Comparing butterLONDON "Jasper" and ULTA "Cream of the Crop"

Hi everyone!  I can hardly believe that February is nearly over and that pretty soon Spring will be here!  So while I was rummaging through my collection of polishes I discovered two pastel yellow nail polishes that looked very similar in their bottles and I decided to test them out to see if they were dupes.  The polishes are butterLONDON's "Jasper" and ULTA's "Cream of the Crop."  Here's how they looked next to each other in the bottles:

After looking at the bottles next to each other I guessed that they were not going to be identical but I went through with the test anyways.  butterLONDON's "Jasper" retails for about $15 (USD) and ULTA's "Cream of the Crop" ranges anywhere from $3-6 (USD) depending on the sale going on.  And with such a massive price difference I was curious which nail polish would be better.  The above picture shows the finished product of both polishes.  butterLONDON's "Jasper" only required two coats while ULTA's "Cream of the Crop" required three to get better coverage.  But I made sure to take pictures along the way, so here is what they looked like after one coat of nail polish each:

As you can see after one coat it became obvious that the butterLONDON nail polish was brighter in color and that the ULTA nail polish had a watery formula.  But as with all lighter colored polish the first coat and possibly the second can be somewhat streaky.  I continued on and here are what my nails looked like after two coats each:

After two coats of nail polish butterLONDON's "Jasper" looked completely opaque and had very minor streaking while ULTA's "Cream of the Crop" was somewhat see-through and full of steaks.  I decided at that point to add a third coat of "Cream of the Crop" which did help a bunch, but it did still have plenty of streaking after the third coat.

Overall while butterLONDON's Jasper" is very expensive compared to ULTA's "Cream of the Crop" I believe "Jasper" to be the better nail polish.  "Jasper" had better coverage in fewer coats, the formula was decent and the color is prettier than ULTA's "Cream of the Crop."  Plus "Cream of the Crop" has a very watery formula and requires at least three coats of polish to make it look okay.  I would definitely recommend butterLONDON's "Jasper" over ULTA's "Cream of the Crop."

ULTA's "Tutu Cute"

Hi guys!  I hope everyone is enjoying the slightly cooler weather.  (Even though I am already missing Summer!)  I know purple nail polish isn't really a fall color but I love purple and I realized I haven't worn a lighter purple nail polish in a while so I decided to dig through my collection for one and I found ULTA's "Tutu Cute"!  And aside from its pretty color I just live its adorable name!

ULTA's "Tutu Cute" is a fun purple purple.  It isn't a dark purple and it isn't lavender it is somewhere in the middle and I love it!  ULTA nail polishes vary in price but I got "Tutu Cute" in a sale where it was buy one get one free, so I got a fantastic deal!  Formula wise "Tutu Cute" is wonderful!  The polish went on super easy and was nearly opaque after one coat!  Also there is no streaking on any of my nails, which makes me very happy!  As for chipping it started almost instantly.  By the end of day one I had tip chips on all of my nails and several small chunks missing from three or four of my nails.

Overall I am completely disappointed by how quickly ULTA's "Tutu Cute" chipped, but the formula is so fantastic and the color is really pretty and I am willing to repaint my nails with "Tutu Cute."  Plus since I got this nail polish during a buy one get one sale it only ended up being between $2-$3 (USD) for the bottle which is a great price!

ULTA "Flamingo"

Hi everyone! Now that Spring is officially in full force I decided to wear a wonderful hot pink by ULTA called "Flamingo."  I originally purchased this color because of its name!  My elementary school was called Flamingo Elementary and I have always been fond of flamingos since!  :)  But aside from its awesome name it is a super fun Springtime hot pink!

So ULTA's "Flamingo" is a bubbly-gummy pink with fun light silver shimmer!  (Which is slightly more apparent in the bottle than on the nail.)  It is a fantastic color and definitely screams Springtime!  Like other ULTA nail polishes I found the application of "Flamingo" very easy and for me ULTA nail polishes have nice sized brushes making it very easy to apply the nail polish without any streaking!  "Flamingo" required only two coats of nail polish to become completely opaque, which I always appreciate!  As for chipping I saw some minor tip chips around day three.  But by day five the nail polish started to crack around the edges of my nails.  It was so weird.  It kind of looked like the layers of polish were separating from each other!  I have never really seen anything like it!

Overall I found ULTA's "Flamingo" a fun Springy color.  And I was pleased with how easy it was to apply, but the weird cracking and separating layers were definitely a downer!  However ULTA's "Flamingo" did last for five days, which is pretty good for nail polish!  In the end I will definitely be wearing "Flamingo" again!

January Nail Design: YouTube

Hey everyone! So with Valentine's Day coming up in a few weeks I decided I wanted to try a nail art design that was cute and girly but not the traditional red and white heart designs you usually see! So I decided to try water marbling! I have been wanting to try this technique out for a long time now but just never really got around to it!  Here is the original picture/video I looked at.  (I took a screen shot of the YouTube video!)  It was done by cutepolish, a YouTube user who does lots of fabulous nail art tutorial, and the link below the picture takes you to her tutorial on water marbling, which is really helpful!

 So I watched cutepolish's water marbling tutorial several times before attempting to try water marbling myself.  As you can see the original picture/video uses primary colors, but as I mentioned before I wanted mine to be Valentine's Day themed so I went with two pinks and a purple.  Here are the polishes I selected:

Polishes from left to right: ULTA "Tutu Cute", OPI "Italian Love Affair", and ULTA "Flamingo".

 

So after selecting my polishes I simply followed cutepolish's steps/directions in her video.  (I suggest you watch her video to really understand how to properly water marble!)  Which to sum it up including filling a small disposable cup with room temperature water (I used tap water since that is all I had!), and then to place tape around each of your nails.  I placed a piece around my finger (and under the front end of my nail) and then placed a second piece right above my nail bed.  It looked like this:

 

 

After that I simply painted a clear coat on my nails, followed by a coat of white nail polish.  For the clear nail polish I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in "Invisible" and for the white nail polish I used Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in "White On."  Here are my nails right before I started the water marble:

 

 

 

Okay so to water marble you simply drop dots of the nail polish you wish to use into the cup to form a bull's eye and then used a toothpick to create the design of your choice!  You have to work relatively quickly because the polish on the water dries fast!  Once you create your design you simply place your nail down into the water to adhere it to your nail, but BEFORE you remove your nail from the water you need to remove the excess nail polish from the top of the water.  I used Q-tips for that part!  Then you'll need to go ahead and remove the tape from the nail you just water marbled before the polish hardens too much (otherwise it will ruin your polish later).  I used an old set of tweezers to help me and it worked pretty well.  And then last but not least you simply need to clean up around each nail and add a topcoat!  I used Orly's "Sec'NDry" on my nails!  Here are my finished nails!

 

 

As you can see they didn't turn out perfect, but for a first attempt I am pretty happy with them!  Also, as you can probably see, while removing the tape I accidentally smudged my middle finger's nail polish.  I also had a bit of difficulty getting the right temperature for the water so my designs did not come out as clear as cutepolish's did in her YouTube video.  (Which is especially obvious on my pinky finger!)  I think with practice I can fully master the art of water marbling and I plan on trying it again soon!

 

Overall I thought water marbling would be extremely hard but I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it actually was!  I definitely plan on trying water marbling out again soon!

ULTA "The Jungle Look"

Hey guys!  So after last week's 22 store visit looking for Nicole by OPI polishes, which I didn't really find but I did buy 8 new polishes, I went looking through my entire nail polish collecting looking for polish I had never tried before.  And one of the ones I found was ULTA's "The Jungle Look," which is this fabulous green color!  Now I know kelly greens aren't usually a winter color but I just couldn't resist adding a splash of spring to my day!  (I am already ready for summer!)

These ULTA nail polishes retail around $3-$6 a bottle depending on whether it is on sale or not.  And every now and again ULTA puts these polishes on sale for buy one get on free!  (Which is usually when I buy them!)

Okay on the the actual nail polish!  ULTA's "The Jungle Look" is this super pretty kelly green, which I purchased not only for its color but also for its name (based on the Disney movie The Jungle Book!)  "The Jungle Look" goes on really well and has an awesome formula!  You can almost get away with just one coat of polish, but I did two because I always do!  As for chipping "The Jungle Look" held up pretty well for about 4 days, but then I did start to notice small chips appearing at the tips of my nails.  As the week went on the chipping was minimal.  I am very impressed with ULTA's "The Jungle Look."  I love when you can wear a nail polish for a week and see very little chipping!

Overall the ULTA's "The Jungle Look" is a good polish.  It has a great formula, goes on well and has a great green color, and lasted 4 days before chipping, which is always a plus in my book!  I definitely recommend this nail polish!  It is a good quality nail polish at an affordable price!

Dupe: ULTA "Bam-blue-zled" and China Glaze "Electric Beat"

At first glance both China Glaze "Electric Beat" and ULTA "Bam-blue-zled" look identical in the bottle.  Both are good quality polishes and neither are too expensive.  I wanted to know if these two colors were actually dupes, or duplicates, of each other or if they only appeared to be dupes in the bottle.  The answer is they are actually dupes!

Both polishes work very well but ULTA's "Bam-blue-zled" required three coats while China Glaze's "Electric Beat" only required two.  As you can see from the pictures the polishes look identical, which means that you don't need to own both.  I waffle on which one I would purchase because ULTA's "Bam-blue-zled" costs a little less but requires an extra coat, while China Glaze's "Electric Pop" only requires two coats.  I guess what it comes down to is: if you buy the China Glaze Electropop Mini set, which is where I got "Electric Beat," then do that instead of buying ULTA's "Bam-blue-zled," but if you don't want the mini set by China Glaze then buy the ULTA polish.  Also one other reason to buy China Glaze's mini set verses ULTA is the size of the bottle/ how much polish you are getting.  China Glaze's mini size has .325 fluid ounces while ULTA's full size bottle only has .33 fluid ounces, which is not a big size difference.  Also if you do choose China Glaze over ULTA and you do not want the Electropop mini set and opt to just buy a full size bottle of "Electric Beat" you'll be getting .5 fluid ounces in China Glaze's full size bottle. 

Just so we are clear: If I had to pick I would choose China Glaze's "Electric Beat" but both do the job and are pretty.
