Dupe Post: Deborah Lippmann "Happy Birthday" and Nicole by OPI's "Rainbow In The S-Kylie"

Hello all and happy Thursday!  Today's post is a comparison of Deborah Lippmann's "Happy Birthday and Nicole by OPI's "Rainbow In The S-Kylie."  Both of these polish are rainbow colored glitter polishes that looked identical in the bottles.  Here is a side-by-side comparison of the bottles:

As you can see they polishes looked identical in the bottle and they were definitely identical on the nail.  Both of them are absolutely gorgeous but application wise Nicole by OPI's "Rainbow In The S-Kylie" was far superior as the glitter applied better.  The main difference would be the price - Deborah Lippmann runs about $18 (USD) a bottle where Nicole by OPI runs closer to $8 (USD) a bottle.

Overall I love the chunky rainbow glitter that both of these polishes have!  However given the choice Nicole by OPI's "Rainbow In The S-Kylie" wins over Deborah Lippmann's "Happy Birthday" based on price and application.

Nail Trick: Using a Sponge to Apply Glitter

Hi everyone!  Today's extra special unscheduled post is all about applying glitter nail polish.  Like everyone else I have struggled to get chunky glitter polishes to go on my nails in an even coat.  After looking around online in the nail polish community I saw a lot of people talking about using disposable make-up sponges to apply glitter in a thick even coat that actually covered the entire nail. So I couldn't resist giving this technique a try.  I decided to select four different glitter polishes to see how well it worked.  Here are the polishes I selected:

Deborah Lippmann's "Happy Birthday" - Nicole by OPI's "Inner Sparkle" - Color Pop's "Extra! Extra - Hard Candy's "Pop Star"

The four glitter nail polishes I picked out are Deborah Lippmann's "Happy Birthday," Nicole by OPI's "Inner Sparkle," Color Pop's "Extra! Extra!," and Hard Candy's "Pop Star."  I went with a rang of different shaped glitters and glitters in different price ranges.  I figured that would give me the best chance to see how this tip works.  I found the technique worked very well because the sponge soak up the excess clear base and it made me wonder why I had not tired this before!  As for the glitter's shape and size I found the polishes with similar sized and shaped glitter worked bed.  (I.E. Deborah Lippmann's "Happy Birthday" and Nicole by OPI's "Inner Sparkle."

Overall I am very pleased with this technique and I'll definitely be using it in the future to create some fun glittery looks!

Deborah Lippmann "Happy Birthday"

Hi everyone!  Today is a special day for me because it is my BIRTHDAY!  So I absolutely couldn't resist pulling out a fittingly fun nail polish.  Today's nail polish is Deborah Lippmann's "Happy Birthday."  Deborah Lippmann is a higher end brand of nail polish that costs somewhere between $15-$20 (US) dollars a bottle.

"Happy Birthday" is a multi-colored chunky glitter polish in a clear base.  Formula wise this nail polish was great and the glitter spread evenly over my nails.  Since "Happy Birthday" is a glitter it is not made to be opaque but instead meant to be worn as a top coat.  So I decided to this nail polish out over a creme based polish.

The first polish I decided to test out with "Happy Birthday" was China Glaze's "Don't Be Shallow," This combination turned out to be very fun and reminded me of confetti.  It was perfect for a birthday celebration!

Overall I am very pleased with Deborah Lippmann's "Happy Birthday."  Everything about this gorgeous glittery nail polish!  I love all the colored glitter and how they look on my nails and I cannot wait to wear this polish again soon!

Deborah Lippmann "Luftballons"

Hi all!  Today's nail polish is Deborah Lippmann's "Luftballons."  I received "Luftballons" as a mini-bottle from Sephora through their V.I.B. Insider reward program.  (V.I.B. stands for Very Important Beauty Insider.)  The V.I.B. program is great because you earn points for buying items at Sephora and then you can use the points to get free sample sized items.

"Luftballons" is a very unique and pretty nail polish.  It features a red jelly base with rainbow colored glitter in various sizes all mixed together.  Formula wise "Luftballons" was very easy to apply and it was no work at all to spread the glitter out in an even coat.  After two coats the nail polish was not opaque but a jelly polish never is.  However after two coats of polish "Luftballons" looked pretty on my nails.  As for chipping "Luftballons" lasted about three days before the nail polish began to flake off.  The polish seemed to flake easily because even with a top coat the glitter caught on just about anything with fabric on it.  In terms of removing "Luftballons" I was surprised how quick and easy it was because glitter has a knack for sticking.

Overall Deborah Lippmann's "Luftballons" is a fun nail polish!  I love how unique the color and glitter is and I don't have anything similar to it in my entire collection!  It is also nice that "Luftballons" has a good formula, was easy to apply, look nice after two coats of polish, lasted a decent amount of time before chipping, and was easy to remove!  I will definitely be wearing this nail polish again and again!

Deborah Lippmann "Cleopatra in New York"

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope you all are enjoying 2014 so far!  To start off the new year I wanted to try a festive nail polish.  So I dug through my collection and came up with Deborah Lippmann's "Cleopatra in New York" which is a gorgeous black nail polish with huge gold glitter chunks in various sizes.

I tend to avoid black nail polishes in favor of brighter polishes but I could not resist the gorgeousness of "Cleopatra in New York"!  Formula wise it is very unique and for the most part it works for this nail polish.  The black base is a jelly, so it is meant to be a little see-through, but then you get the gorgeous multi-layered glitter effect.  However the glitter was a bit difficult to handle, but with a little practice he glitter went on fine.  I usually wear two coats of color, but for "Cleopatra in New York" it wasn't opaque after two coats so I decided to do a third.  I think the third coat was a good idea and made my nails look better!  As for chipping I was surprised how well this polish lasted, considering that most chunky glitters fall off pretty quickly.  Deborah Lippmann's "Cleopatra in New York" lasted about four or five days before it started to chip and fall off in big chunks, which was very impressive!  Unfortunately removing "Cleopatra in New York" was awful!  Most chunky glitter polishes are a bit difficult to remove and not surprisingly "Cleopatra in New York" took me an hour to get it all off!

Overall Deborah Lippmann's "Cleopatra in New York" is a great nail polish!  The color is so unique and fantastic!  I don't have another polish in my collection anywhere close to "Cleopatra in New York'!  The formula is good and even though it needed three coats to be opaque the way it looks is well worth that extra coat and it lasted four to five days before chipping at all which is very impressive for a chunky glitter!  Literally the only downsides of this nail polish is that Deborah Lippmann charges $18 a bottle and it took me an hour to remove this nail polish!  Despite the difficult removal I am definitely willing to wear Deborah Lippmann's "Cleopatra in New York" over and over again!

Deborah Lippmann "Mermaid's Dream"

Hi everyone and happy August!  I cannot believe how fast time is flying by!  Here in North Carolina it is hot as Hades, just like every Summer!  So to help cool me off I decided to pull out Deborah Lippmann's "Mermaid's Dream" which is this fantastic blue-green colored nail polish with glitter!  This nail polish looks like the ocean when the sun hits is!  It just shines and shimmers!

So I purchase my Deborah Lippmann polishes from Nordstrom's and they are outrageously priced at $18 (USA) a bottle!  I only own a couple of her nail polishes because of that!  However I purchased "Mermaid's Dream" on Black Friday 2012 and got a fantastic price of $10 (USA)!  (Which I thought was quite a steal!)  Formula wise "Mermaid's Dream" is a bit watery, but since it is a glitter nail polish that actually worked to my advantage!  The slightly watery nail polish actually went on quite nicely and allowed me to be ale to spread the glitter out evenly!  I was worried about the nail polish not being opaque because it is a bit watery, but that wasn't entirely the case.  After my usual two coats, "Mermaid's Dream" was about 80% opaque, but the nail polish was getting too thick on the nail for a third coat.  Before placing my topcoat on I noticed that "Mermaid's Dream" looked kind of textured due to all the glitter and felt similar to OPI's liquid sand.  I would recommend a topcoat be used on Deborah Lippmann's "Mermaid's Dream" to prevent the nail polish from snagging on clothes.  As for chipping well it started within the first hour or two!  My right thumb smudged and got wrinkles in it, which cannot be fixed except by repainting that nail (and that wasn't about to happen!)  As the day passed the chipping got worse.  Mostly it just rubbed itself right off the tips of my nails and even with a topcoat the nail polish still managed to snag on things, which of course caused large chunks of polish to fall off.  I would say "Mermaid's Dream" lasted about four days for me.  As for removing the nail polish that was a nightmare!  I had to scrub and scrub to get the polish off and even then the glitter wanted to stay on like it was done with super glue!  All in all I think it took about 45 minutes to remove Deborah Lippmann's "Mermaid's Dream" from my nails!

Overall while I like the color and the way "Mermaid's Dream" looks on my nails the fact that it was so expensive and still got ruined in less than a day is definitely not okay!  Add that to how long it took to remove the nail polish from my poor nails and I may not wear this nail polish again any time soon!

Deborah Lippman "Candy Shop"

Happy Halloween!  I can't believe October is almost over!  I had hoped to get this post up early so I could post a Halloween nail tutorial, but sadly I've been busy and it just didn't happen!  Anyway to wrap up October's Breast Cancer Awareness month I decided to wear my very first Deborah Lippman nail polish!  I am so excited about this nail polish!  I just think it is so unique and gorgeous!

This Deborah Lippman nail polish is called "Candy Shop" and usually retails for around $16.  I purchased mine at Nordstroms but I am sure there are other places that sell this polish!

So "Candy Shop" is this gorgeous glitter polish with a light pink base color!  It looks really neat on and is packed with most every color of glitter under the sun!  The glitter is also in several sizes!  The glitter overlapped as I put the coats of polish on and look really fun!  "Candy Shop" took two and a half coats of polish, which meant I did two full coats and then had to add polish to the tips of my nails.  I found because if the glitter this polish took a fair amount of work to put on!  And I used two coats of my usual topcoat (Orly "Sec'N'Dry") so that my nails would feel smooth and not rough!  With so many layers I thought the polish would chip fairly quickly but I was wrong!  I went about five days before I saw any chips!

Overall I am very impressed with this polish!  It looks great once it is on and for me is worth the little extra bit of work to put it on!

EDIT: I just took "Candy Shop" off and it was very difficult!  The pink polish part comes off easily but the glitter sticks like glue!  It took me between 45 minutes to an hour to remove the polish!  I use a popular method of nail polish where you soak a cotton ball in nail polish remover and place it on your nail and hold it for several minutes.  Typically when you slide the cotton ball off nearly all of the polish comes off but in the case of Deborah Lippman's "Candy Shop" almost none of the polish came off.  I still love this polish but it is a pain to take off!
